Medan – FKM USU: Lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKM USU), officially received patent certificates for their public health innovations on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Auditorium of the Directorate of Scientific Writing, Publication, and Publishing of Universitas Sumatera Utara (DITP3I-USU). The patent certificates were presented by the Director of DITP3I-USU, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Irvan, M.Si., to three FKM USU lecturers: Dra. Syarifah, M.S., for the invention SI-LIGEL, a silicone container filled with Lysol gel designed to interrupt the transmission of tuberculosis (TB); Prof. Dr. Ir. Zulhaida Lubis, M.Kes., for the invention of a shredded anchovy and moringa product; and Prof. Dr. Ir. Evawany Yunita Aritonang, M.Si., for the invention of a functional kombucha production process based on roselle and moringa with high iron content and low tannin and alcohol levels. These three patented inventions are the outcomes of research developed to address various public health challenges, ranging from the prevention of infectious diseases and the utilization of nutritious local food resources to the development of functional foods that support improved public health. The patent awards reflect FKM USU's strong commitment to producing innovative research with both scientific value and practical applications that contribute to public health development. The patented innovations also support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). This achievement is expected to encourage more innovative research that benefits society, strengthen the research culture within FKM USU, and promote the downstream utilization and commercialization of research outcomes.
