Medan – FKM USU: The Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FKM USU), received a visit from the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), on Tuesday (11/8/2026) from 2:00 PM (WIB) onward at the FKM USU Meeting Room. The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Dr. Sri Malem Indirawati, S.K.M., M.Si., and was attended by vice deans, heads and secretaries of study programs, professors, and expert staff within FKM USU. On this occasion, Dr. Sri Malem Indirawati, S.K.M., M.Si., presented research by lecturers and students related to cancer. Dr. Muhammad Helmy bin Sabtu, Head of the Department of Leadership, Community Service, Public Speaking and Skills, and concurrently Advisor to the Volunteer Secretariat of the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation, introduced UTHM as a university focused on basic engineering with an industry orientation. Ahmad Khirul Nizam bin Ali, Manager of the UTHM Cancer Foundation, presented the UTHM Cancer Foundation as a volunteer movement providing social support for cancer patients and their families through halfway-house programs and fundraising. Both parties explored opportunities for cooperation in the form of joint research, community services, and joint publications, as well as the initiation of a joint conference. The discussion also raised several important points related to the downstream application of research results, the potential use of local food as a preventive measure against cancer risk, and the importance of family psychosocial support in patient care. The event closed with the presentation of souvenirs from FKM USU to UTHM and the signing of an implementation agreement as an initial follow-up to the collaboration between the two institutions. This visit strengthens the Faculty of Public Health’s role in enhancing cancer promotive and preventive efforts and improving public health status. This cross-border collaboration supports the achievement of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through strengthening research and preventive and promotive action against cancer, SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthening international cooperation between FKM USU and UTHM toward a healthier society.
