Medan - FKM USU: The South East One Health University Network (SEAOHUN), which consists of 4 countries: Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, organized the "Regional Learning Workshop on Participatory One Health Digital Disease Surveillance to Prevent Pandemic using PODD Model" at the Tharathong Room, Holiday Inn Chiang Mai Hotel, Thailand (11-13/7/2016). Each country's team consisted of four people with different expertise in health, including doctors, veterinarians, and public health experts. There were 4 people from the Indonesian team invited to the event, namely from FKM USU (dr. Rahayu Lubis, MKes, PhD), FKM UI (Dr. Dra. Dewi Susanna, MS), FK Udayana (Sang Gede Purnama, SKM, MSc), and FKH Samratulangi (Dr.drh. Meis Jacinta Nangoy, MSi).

Each country’s team was assigned a task to present at the workshop, aiming to exchange and share One Health experiences and success stories in public health across Southeast Asia among SEAOHUN members. The Indonesian team's presentation, titled "Global Partnership in Field Training and Outreach Education," shared the success story of the involvement of humans, animals, and the environment in Tangkoko, Manado.

The Participatory One Health Digital Disease (PODD) model is a digital-based One Health surveillance system that tracks animal disease outbreaks to prevent transmission to humans with community participation. For two years, Chiang Mai University has successfully implemented this project with financial support from the Skoll Foundation, amounting to USD 2,000,000.

The objectives of this workshop are:

  1. Deepen understanding by using the PODD model as an approach to address health issues.

  2. Provide an opportunity to access an open-source digital health surveillance tool at SEAOHUN member universities.

  3. Exchange and share One Health experiences and success stories in public health.

  4. Maintain the integrative diffusion of interactions between humans, animals, and the environment through collaborative networks among faculty members internationally.
