Medan – FKM USU: FKM USU held a presentation of project-based learning outcomes from the Environmental Pollution course on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the FKM USU Studio. The projects were developed by students of the Undergraduate Program in Public Health. This activity formed part of the project-based learning process, which encouraged students to deepen their understanding of environmental pollution issues while developing innovative solutions in the form of prototypes. The event was officially opened by Dr. Ir. Evi Naria, M.Kes., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Public Health at FKM USU. The lecturers attending the event included Winni R.E. Tumanggor, S.K.M., M.P.H.; Dr. Ir. Evi Naria, M.Kes.; Dr. dr. Taufik Ashar, M.K.M.; and Prof. Dra. Nurmaini, M.K.M., Ph.D. Each group presented an innovation developed in response to various environmental issues, including liquid waste treatment, air pollutant reduction, and the processing of organic waste into useful products. The activities consisted of an exhibition and presentations showcasing the students’ innovations. A total of 14 groups participated in the assessment conducted by the supervising lecturers. Three innovations were selected as the best projects: EL-FILTRA won first place, Eco Easter took second place, and Brifier secured third place. EL-FILTRA is a prototype laundry wastewater filtration system designed to reduce pollutant levels before the wastewater is discharged into the environment. Eco Easter focuses on processing organic waste into useful leachate products, while Brifier is an air purification innovation that uses corn cob briquettes to help create cleaner air. This activity supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3, namely Good Health and Well-being. This contribution is reflected in the students’ efforts to develop innovations that reduce environmental pollution and its potential adverse effects on public health.
