Medan - FKM USU: FKM USU has completed its mentoring program in three regencies for 2021, namely Karo and Labuhanbatu Selatan Regencies in North Sumatra Province and Rokan Hulu Regency in Riau Province. The Health Program Governance mentoring program is a collaboration between FKM USU and the Bureau of Planning and Budgeting of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Since 2019, 9 (nine) regencies have been assisted by FKM USU in relation to this program.

West Nias Regency in North Sumatra Province and Singkil Regency in Aceh Province were the regencies that were assisted in 2019. In 2020, four regencies will be assisted: Deli Serdang and Langkat in North Sumatra Province and East Aceh and Aceh Tamiang in Aceh Province.

The health program governance mentoring program aims to improve the quality of health development management in the regions, particularly in preparing regional work plans to ensure that they are compiled in a comprehensive, integrated, and evidence-based manner. The Bureau of Planning and Budgeting of the Ministry of Health selected specific mentoring locations based on the 2018 Public Health Development Index (HDI) calculation, which were in the low category.

The mentoring activities, which lasted about 8 (eight) months, included Focus Group Discussions and three workshops targeting structural officials in the health office, heads of community health centers, and community health center planners. Each workshop was monitored and evaluated to ensure the process went according to plan. The activity ended with the dissemination and cross-sector advocacy, aiming to synergize cross-sector programs with health programs developed by the health offices.

The output of the mentoring activity set by the Ministry of Health for 2021 is the work plan document from each health office, which aligns with the standards set by the Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation No. 86 of 2017. The planning teams from the health offices will present their work plans during the evaluation meeting and final report session in Jakarta on October 26-29, 2021. The quality of the plans produced is expected to improve the Public Health Development Index (IPHD) in each region.

The mentoring team from USU was directly supervised by the Dean of FKM USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si. The mentoring team was composed of lecturers and Doctoral students from FKM USU.
