Medan – FKM USU: The Master of Public Health students at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Sumatera Utara, specializing in Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Health, conducted a Project-Based Learning activity at PT Industri Karet Deli Medan, located on Yos Sudarso Street, Medan, on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Supervised by Dr. Sri Malem Indirawati, S.K.M., M.Si., the activity was carried out as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Faculty of Public Health and PT Industri Karet Deli. The program aimed to provide students with practical learning experiences in implementing industrial sanitation and hygiene, occupational safety and health, and hazardous and toxic waste management in the industrial sector. During the visit, an introductory session was delivered by Mr. Sutrisno and Mr. Rinal from the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Division of PT Industri Karet Deli. They presented the company's occupational safety and health management system, hazardous waste management practices, and various initiatives undertaken to maintain environmental quality and protect workers' health. As part of the learning activities, students observed occupational safety facilities, the Temporary Storage Facility for hazardous and toxic waste, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. These field observations were designed to enhance students' competencies and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the implementation of occupational safety and health and environmental health practices in industrial settings. This Project-Based Learning activity also contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), by promoting practice-based learning to strengthen students' competencies and practical experience, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by reinforcing collaboration between higher education institutions and industry in supporting education, research, and the sustainable implementation of occupational safety and health and environmental health.
