Medan – FKM USU: FKM USU was visited by the Balai Laboratorium Kesehatan Masyarakat (BLKM) to explain their laboratory services as part of an effort to strengthen academic knowledge and practical skills among students in the environmental health field. The event, which was held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, was attended by the lecturers and students majoring in Environmental Health in the Undergraduate Program in Public Health. The session started with opening remarks from the Head of the Balai Labkesmas Medan, Bernike Ambarita, S.K.M., M.Kes., who explained the strategic role of the Balai Labkesmas Medan in supporting public health laboratory services. Then, a further explanation regarding the scope of laboratory analysis was presented by NS.Si.di, S.Si., M.Kes., as Chair of the Working Group on Quality, Human Resource Development, and Partnerships. In his presentation, he explained the various types of laboratory tests that BLKM Medan can provide, the quality standards applied, and the important role of the laboratory staff’s competence in ensuring the validity of test results. The session continued with a discussion of the sample service workflow presented by Desy Sihite, S.K.M., M.Kes., who provided a technical overview of sample reception procedures, testing stages, and the mechanism for determining laboratory service costs. This visit was officially welcomed and opened by the Chair of the Bachelor’s Program in Public Health, Dr. Ir. Evia Naria, M.Kes., who, in her remarks, highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and public health laboratories in supporting students’ competency development and improving the relevance of learning to real-world demands. In order to serve as a learning opportunity for students, this visit also represents a tangible follow-up to the cooperation agreement between the USU Faculty of Public Health and BLKM Medan, as outlined in the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). This activity is part of strengthening collaboration in the fields of education, research, and community service, as well as supporting the achievement of SDG Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
