Public Health Science

Master's Program (S-2)

The Master's Program in Public Health Science of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is an advanced education after the Undergraduate Program in Public Health and has achieved Very Good (A) accreditation. This program focuses on a deeper understanding of disease prevention and treatment solutions in society.

Supported by lecturers who are experts in the field of public health with national teaching certificates and assisted by an integrated curriculum, we have a deep commitment to providing intensive and effective guidance and learning experiences for our students. Our main goal is to prepare them to be excellent public health extension workers in the field and able to compete at the national and international levels. Graduates of the Master's Program in Public Health Science are expected to be able to follow developments in the field of public health and work in various health institutions, such as health offices, hospitals, non-governmental organizations in the health sector, consultants, and so on, as well as research lecturers.

History

1999

After becoming a faculty in 1993, although still under the structure of the USU Postgraduate School, in 1999, the Master’s Program in Public Health Science was born through the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 295/DIKTI/Kep/1999 dated June 16, 1999, with a study focus in Occupational Health. In 2000, another new program was born, namely the Health Administration and Policy Study Program (Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education No. 353/DIKTI/Kep/2000 dated September 25, 2000). This study program then developed five study focuses: 1) Health Administration and Policy; 2) Hospital Administration; 3) Community Health Administration/Epidemiology; 4) Public Nutrition Administration and Policy; and 5) Disaster Health Management.

2005

In 2005, the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education No. 136/D/T/2005 was issued on May 10, 2005, on the Establishment of the Industrial Environmental Health Management Study Program.

2007

Furthermore, in 2007, all master’s (S-2) study programs whose parent was Public Health Science, through the Decree of the Rector of USU No. 1535 / H5.1.R / SK / PRS / 2009, the management was placed in FKM USU. The name of the study program also changed to the Master’s (S-2) Program in Public Health Science. The Doctoral Program in Public Health Science was then opened in 2009 through the Decree of the Rector of USU No. 929/H5.1.R/SK/PRS/2009.
