Medan – FKM USU: FKM USU held the launch of the Assisted Village Program in Pulo Brayan Kota Urban Village, Medan Barat District, Medan City on Friday (9/24/2021). The launch took place in the Medan Barat District Office Hall, attended by the FKM USU Assisted Village Team, led by Prof. Drs. Heru Santosa, M.S., Ph.D, Dean of FKM USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si., Head of West Medan District, Rudi Faizal Lubis, A.P., M.Si., Head of Pulo Brayan Health Center, Dr. Trisna Haryanti, M.Kes, and Head of Pulo Brayan Urban Village, Sutrisno, S.Sos.
The launching is a series of activities for the FKM USU Assisted Village which began in March 2021. Based on the problem identification conducted by the Assisted Village Team, there are 5 (five) problems related to public health which are then intervened by the FKM USU Team with physical and non-physical activities. The activities that were carried out in this Assisted Village Program were workshops on the preparation of Strategic Plans (Renstra) targeting Pulo Brayan Health Center Healthcare Workers on 23-24 August 2021, which were carried out to increase the capacity of health center healthcare workers in preparing evidence-based Strategic Plans.

The other activity is “Strengthening Family and Posyandu Food Resilience in Stunting Prevention”, through the formation of trained posyandu cadres, the formation of catfish cultivation groups and vertical vegetable planting. The group formation was carried out in a training activity on August 11, 2021, including the distribution of 8 (eight) catfish barrels and 1000 10-12 cm catfish seeds, while for vertical vegetable cultivation, the community service team provided kale, chinese cabbage and spinach vegetable seeds to be planted vertically and planted on top of the catfish barrels. This activity is expected to make the community able to provide food independently to meet household food needs.
The "Development of a Healthy, Neat, and Clean (Serasi) Culture Movement in Traditional Markets" was carried out with health promotion activities focused on healthy culture in traditional markets, followed by the distribution of masks. The team donated two washbasins on July 23, 2021, to support the realization of the "Serasi" cultural movement in the traditional market environment.
The next activity carried out by the FKM USU Assisted Village Team is Healthy Environmental Management in Watersheds to Realize an Orderly, Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful and Harmonious Environment. The activity that was conducted in this program was the socialization of waste management using the 3R method (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), on August 4, 2021, in Neighborhood VI, involving people from neighborhoods I, II, IV, VI, and X of Pulo Brayan Kota Urban Village. After socializing the 3R movement, the community was also motivated to apply the knowledge gained by participating in a waste recycling competition. The competition was held on September 8, 2021 and was enthusiastically followed by the community.
The next activity was “Eradicating Open Defecation Towards SMART Neighborhoods” in Neighborhood IX of Pulo Brayan Kota Urban Village. Based on an agreement with the community, healthy latrines were built in this place and at the same time a self-help group was formed as a driver of healthy latrines. The construction of latrines began on August 11, 2021, and on the occasion of the launching of the Assisted Village on September 24, 2021, it was officiated by the Dean of FKM USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si.

In her speech, Prof. Ida Yustina hoped that the activities carried out by FKM USU would benefit the community. The Head of West Medan District, Rudi Faizal Lubis, A.P., M.Si, expressed his gratitude for the Assisted Village Program implemented by FKM USU at the launching event. During the event, the inauguration of Healthy Latrine Activists and the Assisted Village Gemilang Environmental Ambassadors was also held. The event then continued with a field visit and inauguration of Healthy Latrines in Neighborhood IX of Pulo Brayan Kota Urban Village.
