Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia – FKM USU held a community service programme based on knowledge transfer for the Javanese community in Kampung Parit Jelutong, Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia, on 14 October 2026. This activity forms part of the International Community Service and Academic Collaboration programme entitled “Enhancing Javanese Community Health in Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia through Local Wisdom”.
Through the knowledge transfer model, the community service activity is not only focused on conveying information but also on the process of sharing knowledge between academics and the community. This approach creates opportunities for the community to recognise, understand and utilise health knowledge in their daily lives whilst upholding the values of local wisdom that are deeply rooted within the Javanese community in Malaysia. The event also involved members of the Association of Indonesian Higher Education Institutions in Public Health (AIPTKMI), namely the North Sumatra Health Institute, Efarina University and Dehasen University.
The event opened with a welcome address from the Dean of PPUK Dr Zahrul Akmal bin Damim. Mr Zaili Bin Saiman, Village Head and Chair of the Development and Safety Committee, Kampung Parit Jelutong, expressed his gratitude to the Faculty of Public Health, USU (FKM USU) and the Public Health Programme, UTHM (PPUK UTHM) for visiting and organising this event. “May the Faculty of Public Health, USU continue to make a positive impact both nationally and internationally,” he said.
The event continued with a pre-test prior to the educational session, followed by the main part of the knowledge transfer activity. Dr Sri Malem Indirawati, SKM, M.Si, presented material on ‘Guyub Sehat’, an acronym for recommendations on clean and healthy living: ‘Be physically active every day’, ‘Prioritise personal hygiene’, ‘Let’s consume healthy food’, ‘Strive for a clean environment’, and ‘Be smoke-free’. The event concluded with a post-test to assess the success of the knowledge transfer session and ended with a poco-poco dance involving the participants and delegations from USU-UTHM and AIPTKMI.
