Medan - FKM USU: FKM USU in collaboration with CISDI (Center for Indonesia's Strategic Development Initiatives) held a seminar and talk show entitled "Cigarettes of the Present: Wrapped in Style, Sold Cheaply, Sucking the Future", Monday (May 26, 2025), at the FKM USU Auditorium. The activity was held to commemorate No Tobacco Day, as part of the Act of Public Health. The seminar featured two speakers, Dr. Drs. R. Kintoko Rochadi, M.K.M (Lecturer FKM USU), and Dr. Beladenta Amalia, MPH, PhD (Project Lead Tobacco Control CISDI). In his presentation, Dr. Kintoko emphasized that the cigarette industry is currently using a persuasive communication strategy to shape adolescent behavior. “They utilize psychological aspects through packaging design and lifestyle narratives, so that cigarettes look cool and normal in the eyes of young people”. Similarly, Dr. Beladenta Amalia, MPH, Ph.D, highlighted the easy access to cigarettes at relatively cheap prices, making adolescents more vulnerable. “Teenagers do not yet have the financial strength, but instead become the main target of the cigarette industry,” she said. The event was opened by the Dean of FKM USU, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si, followed enthusiastically by around 200 students from USU and various health education institutions in Medan City.
